We are now open at our second location! HOORAY! Our grand opening celebration will be on Saturday October 25th.

Please come any time to see the work of several new gallery artists including Jeff St John, L.Ray, Lotus McElfish, and Sheryl Ellinwood.

We are open from 11-6 Thursday through Monday on Main Street. Our hours at the Nugent street location have changed. We are open there on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11-6. Hope to see you soon.

We have put reproductions of a Doug Sweet painting on one side of our new sign and of a Jack Ramsey painting on the other side. Both look terrific and we hope they get lots of attention.

I have begun hanging art in the new gallery! Started in one corner...very dense salon style. We don't have all the interior walls up yet so trying to maximize the space. Here we have works by Doug Sweet, Gary Simmons, Susan Kirchman, John Bradley, and Claudia Reese.

We had our first sale yesterday, even though we are not open yet. The last large Longhorn by Stephen Sumrall Orsak sold just after I got it on the wall.

The BIG signs are going up today so we should be in business!

Time flies when you are having fun! We have been working very hard to finish the building. Final inspection was supposed to be today but he (the inspector) hasn't shown up yet. Everything is ready, even the windows are washed. Light bulbs (50) just arrived so we have time to put them in before he gets here. Hoping it will be a champagne day. Then, as soon as I set up the computer and the credit-card-sales capability, we can hang art and open Kirchman Gallery 2 !

Sliding storage racks

Warren is designing and building 2-d art storage racks, similar to the ones that we have at the first gallery. They will store framed art works which are not on the walls. He is also making shelves in the front windows.

The outside side walls are being painted the same color as the stucco. I am "distressing" the concrete floors. I have printed the sign for in front of the bldg. Warren is building the structure to mount it on. Pedestals will be next. Moving art in is not far behind. We will open when everything is ready. The opening party will be October 11th, a few days after Warren's birthday.

We had a great reception on Saturday featuring the work of Anna Marie Pavlik and David Kroft. We also got some beautiful new work by Wm. Tone. His free and easy drawing and painting styles are fresh and wonderful. See our website for some of his images but here is one that is not on there, titled Flower Garden.

Most of the building progress lately has been on the inside but here is an outside shot showing CLOUDS! we are so happy for the rain.

You can see one panel of the over-the-door-roof us up. The front is looking almost like the concept drawing that we started with. Need to paint the front doors. Next week the concrete floor will get fixed and we will see if it is good enough to "live with".

Almost all of the metal is now on the front. The roof over the front door will be barn-red. The inside will be ready to paint sometime this week. I am over crowded with art-work here at the other location, waiting for space to put it up at the new gallery. Just in the past week we have gotten new work by Doug Sweet, Bill Meek and Lotus McElfish.

Why did the chickens cross the road?

You gotta love it! I was walking from Kirchman Gallery to the new Kirchman Gallery II the other day with my camera. Across Main Street (Hwy 290) walking along the wall to the Post Office were these two chickens. Turns out they walk back and forth every day. Presumably they have to go to pick up their mail, just like the rest of us who live "in town".

After a fabulous trip to Costa Rica we are back-at-it. Again the recent progress on the new gallery building is astounding.... well at least I think it is. The entire interior has drywall. This week Warren and his two helpers will start taping the seams in order to get the walls finished. New art work is beginning to come in. We will open sometime in August.

John and Camille's wedding

We have just returned from the wedding of my sister Jane's so John Kirchman to Camille Duplantier in Costa Rica. What a wedding! It was incredible and held in the most gorgeous botanical garden either of us has ever seen. The Duplantier family did an amazing job planning every detail of the events for three days, culminating with a roasted pig fiesta and entertainment by three different musical groups. Jane would have loved it, the Duplantier family, and especially the happy couple, Camille and John.

The progress lately has been amazing. Today Warren and three guys put all the 40' long metal roof panels on the front part of the building. He had already completed the 12' deep addition across the whole 30' width of the building. The old store front (which ended-up inside the building, has now been taken out, making the place bigger than I envisioned. The stucco has been started on the outside front and side walls. The glass company has come and measured for the windows which will go in soon. But best of all, the AIR CONDITIONING will be installed soon!! It has been unseasonably hot here all month.

Great progress has been made on the new building since the last post. The addition on the back is all closed in, has lights and a bathroom. This addition will be a work shop and storage for the gallery. Now the front is being remodeled pushing out to add twelve feet to the whole width (30 feet). The framing looks like a drawing of the new facade. The new doors should be delivered by the end of the week. We are calling it Kirchman Gallery 2.
In the meantime we took two days off to go to Dallas to visit a glass gallery and to go to the Martin Puryear Exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art of Fort Worth.

The addition on the new gallery building has the beginnings of four walls and the rafters for the roof. It might get the roof panels, and thus rain protection, this week.

Our third annual exhibition of work by Stephen Sumrall Orsak has been hung at 110 East Main Street, Johnson City. It is in the former Rice Construction office just two blocks from Kirchman Gallery. We are calling it a Kirchman Gallery Satellite show. This past year Stephen has focused his creative energy on the subject of Longhorn cattle. There are some great images, all done in charcoal on canvas. As in previous years, several pieces have sold already and the show was just unofficially opened today. If you are interested in having one of these, act fast so you won't be disappointed. The reception will be towards the end of the show, on Friday the 21st of March, right before Easter. The concrete slab for the addition to the new building was poured on Wednesday. Now the framework of two walls is appearing.

Valentine show coming down

I hate to see the Valentine show come down. It was a great combination

of interesting and beautiful works. We will take it down on Tuesday to make room for the painters from the Bunkhouse Gang. This will be an exuberant show by five Hill Country painters. The reception will be February 23rd. Come and meet these talented women.

I have had a constant display of forced Narcissus bulbs, for the last month. I LOVE the smell of Narcissus! I am now on the third batch, which are fabulously perfect just in time for Valentines Day. Next will come my blue Hyacinths just in time for my Grandson Ben's 15th birthday.

The slab crew has started digging the footing trenches for the addition foundation. Things had been slowed down waiting for the permit, which we expect tomorrow. Turns out that those steps in the foreground, which had to be taken out to make room for the footings, were solid concrete and went three feet into the ground! It took two guys with a pneumatic impact hammer a whole day to break them up. Hopefully our Valentines Day present will be a building permit.

The demolition of the inside of the building is just about complete. When they took the old wood off of the front of the building, they uncovered BLUE! The blue wall will go away after the addition is built, 12 feet in front of that existing blue wall.

The last weekend of every month, on Saturday, we have a reception at Kirchman Gallery. The last weekend of every other month the Beninis host Arts Encounters at the Benini Sculpture Ranch. This picture of my friend Donna and me was taken on Sunday January 27th at the Benini Studio. There were large crowds at Beninis that weekend for a great schedule of presentations. Visitors had an inspiring time there and at the art gallery receptions here in Johnson City on Saturday night. Watson Studio Gallery opened their new juried show Menage Trois that evening at the same time that we opened our Heart of the Matter, Art for the Valentine Season, show. Both exhibitions are delightfully interesting and reception guests responded very favorably. The Kirchman Gallery Valentines exhibition comes down on February 18th, so visit sooner rather than later. You will LOVE the luminescent iridescent encaustic heart paintings by Darrell Troppy, (which would make great Valentine presents)!

The Heart of the Matter, Art for the Valentine Season opens on January 24th and a reception will be held on Saturday the 26th from 4-8pm. Artworks by Margie Crisp, Jan Heaton, Zena Stetka-Howe, Diane Hudson, William Montgomery, Jeff Rowe, Sheri Seegerman, Darrell Troppy and Rusty Yates all fall into the categories of Hearts, Flowers or RED. There will be many art pieces appropriate for Valentine gifts so bring your sweetie, and watch which things he/she responds to. (We can keep a secret until February 14th.) Beth McElhaney will be on site during the reception, showing her wonderful selection of one-of-a-kind jewelry.

Just in case anybody doubts that we bought a dump, here are the first pictures of our next project. A roof with large holes (which had been cut for dryer vents), no heating or air conditioning, no plumbing or electrical, and a plan to tear off the front wall and move it 12 feet....it seems that what we have purchased is three concrete block walls.

We took a week off in January and went to Minnesota to visit Jennifer, Mike and their four precious children. It was worth freezing our butts off to see them and get a grand-kid-fix.

As some of you may have heard, we have bought another building in Johnson City and will be opening another gallery during 2008. We will begin extensive renovations soon. You can keep track of the progress on this blog, or by stopping by 305 Main Street, the old Washboard building. When we open, in late spring or early summer, we will feature one-of-a-kind jewelry, fine-art glass and smaller scale art works. We are still debating, but the current front-runner for the name of the new gallery is Dazzle. If you have a suggestion....let us hear it!
